one civil war, like you. Only longer ago, much longer.

Really?????

Yes, really

http://www.british-civil-wars.co.uk/

The Bishops' Wars, 1639 and 1640
The First Civil War, 1640-1646
The Second Civil war, 1647-1649
The Third Civil War, 1649-1651
The Commonwealth, 1649-1653
Cromwells Protectorate 1654-1658
Restoration 1659-1650

I note that the dates of these 4 civil wars all run together,
does that tell you something?

Does not the war of the two kings count as a civil war? I will grant
that much of it was fought by proxy, and outside Britain. But in
essence it was a war between two claimants to the British throne.

And how about '45? Scottish war of independence or British civil war?

Excellent! Bravo!

I'm not aware of any state that allows a person to kill an unarmed
burglar, or to shoot to kill except to prevent the death or injury of
the shooter or a third party. In any case, burglaries occur every day
in gun-friendly states.

Texas and Delaware are the first two that come to mind.

Its evident that your emotional world view has little room for reason
or rational.

Emotional world view? Soldiers know what firearms are made for. Just as some
knives are made to use as tools and some are made for use as weapons, some
firearms are made to shoot at targets with - some are made to kill with.

-------

The blanket claim was made that the only reason firearms are made, is
to harm people. End Statement, Full Stop, End Program.

Now laddy..what is the difference between a soldiers firearm and that
used by the Olympic biathalon team? A kitchen knife and a bayonet? A
stump blowing charge and a IED?

Color? Construction? Or..is "intent of the user" the key?

Guns are not designed to harm.

Guns are designed to harm, sorry if you don't like the fact and
want to hide behind the idea that the existence of specialised
"sport" weapons make that untrue. Target shooting is a spin off
from the existence of guns, as javelin throwing came from the war
spear.

So are javelins designed to harm? And is a Hum-Vee designed to harm?

High School or college archery teams are training grounds for

Also reminds me of the hammer toss..war hammer was the original device

I drove into a deep washout in high tumbleweeds once. The sudden stop
caused the rifle in the pickup truck rear window gun rack, to knock
me cold when it flew forwards.

Hummm I wonder if that was another firearms injury?

Impressive word. Now back it up.

Its to be noted that the UK passed the US in residential Hot burlaries
several years ago. A Hot burglary is where the occupants are at home
at the time of entry. Doing such in the US..tends to be, in the small
cases it occurs..fatal. So most burglars will case, then enter when
you are gone..and then quiver all the while. Some places of course are
less lethal to criminals than others. The totally gun restricted
District of Columbia is rarely lethal, while a heavily armed place
such as Phoenix tends to have their Hot burglars grow a chalk outline.

Need the cites? Id be happy to provide them for you. Then you can
reconsider your "impressive" word.

If they use swords capable of piercing flesh, fer sure.

The majority of gun-related deaths in the USA, AFAIAA, are from handguns,
which have no target, hunting or serious military application. They are
inherently inaccurate, and inherently easy to carry and conceal. Give
everyone a three foot long bolt action rifle, and ban handguns.
