I will soon be cruising on Holland America's Prinsendam down the Amazon as
far as Manaus with stops in several places. Any suggestions of excursions,
places to visit, shopping, personal safety would be appreciated.

It's perfectly safe to swim in the water with those little fish with the
big shiny teeth. Just be sure you don't have any cuts or open sores.
Bathe in Deep Woods Off before embarking on any tours up river. Stick
with your tour guide as if your life depends on it. There's lots of
critters out in the rain forest just waiting for you to wander off from
the heard. Pythons and Boas can be unbelievably fast if they think
you're something to eat.
