Cancun to Chichen Itza
I realize that this is r.t.europe but r.t.usa-canada is almost useless
and this is the only place where travel experts can really be found so I apologize if this offends anyone. How does one travel from Cancun to Chichen Itza for a day? Can anyone recommend a bus or other travel option to get to Chichen Itza and perhaps other Mayan temples such as Uxmal in the area of Cancun? Many thanks. |

The same people probably read both groups. I do. How does one travel from Cancun to Chichen Itza for a day? The concierge of any hotel in Cancun can set you up with a decent bus tour to Chichen Itza. -- Larry |

You could probably merge all 50,000+ newsgroups into one - and still be left with very little worth reading or replying to. I think NGs have had their day....it's probably time to move on and leave what's left to the ranters. Gerry |

There are plenty of bus tours from Cancun to Chichen Itza for a day, and no need to book in advance- you can sort it out when you're in Cancun. Your hotel will probably have information on them too. We actually stayed in Merida and visited Chichen Itza from there. This was 10 years ago... don't remember the tour company... Some of the buses are very comfortable compared to similar in Europe (fully reclining seats etc.)- so worth asking about that. -- (*) of the royal duchy of city south and deansgate www.davidhorne.net (email address on website) "[Do you think the world learned anything from the first world war?] No. They never learn." -Harry Patch (1898-2009) |

There are zillions of tour bus operators out of Cancun. all more or less expensive. For this kind of question you could check the forums at tripadvisor, loneyplanet and a few others. The main public bus service in the Yucatan peninsula is ADO, but I don't believe they have a direct bus to Chichen Itza from Cancun. If you don't want to spend the money on a tour bus and you are feeling extremely adventurous, you could take the ADO bus to Merida or Valladolid and a taxi or bus from there. You may be pushing it to do it that way in one day though. T. |
