Baltimore is much closer than NYC. You may also want to look at flights
into Philadelphia, which is about an hour further from Ocean City, MD,
than if you came from Baltimore.

Why not rent a car? It can be fairly inexpensive, and you'll get to see
a lot more. It's an easy drive from either airport. A quick search on
Travelocity shows compact/economy car rentals starting at $18/day.

The original poster said he was 23. He will need to check age
restrictions on car rentals. I think some companies still restrict
rentals to those age 25 or older, and many of those that don't
tack on hefty "younger driver" fees. Add to that insurance costs
and taxes, and your $18 a day estimate is going to be under by
a lot.

LHD vs RHD. He is probably used to driving on the other side of the
road.

Where would be best to fly to to get to Ocean City? New York or Baltimore?
I'd need to get a coach or bus to ocean city; but the greyhound site won't
let me reserve tickets since i'm not from the US, are these services always
full or can i just 'turn up'?

you need to fly into BWI if possible, or Dulles if you can't.
washington is closer to ocean city than NYC. greyhounds usually
don't require reservations except at peak times. in the summer
that would probably be fridays going to OC and sundays coming
back. we have a 3 day holiday weekend sept 3,4,5 (labor day).

Will a regular VISA credit card from the UK work in US ATMS (probably a
silly question but just to be on the safe side!).

i haven't seen one yet that wouldn't take both visa & mastercard.
debit cards for most major debit card nets like cirrus should
also work.
