£99 flights to Kuala Lumpur go on sale today
AirAsiaX promises fares under £100 to Malaysia will be available from
midday today

Booking opens at midday today for the five times weekly direct flights
with AirAsiaX which begin in March 2009 between Stansted and Kuala
Lumpur International Airport’s Low Cost Carrier Terminal.

At £99 each way, the introductory offer hugely undercuts existing
airfares between London to Malaysia which typically cost between £500-
£600.

The London-KL route is a major step in AirAsia’s realising its
international aspirations. Chief executive Tony Fernandes said:
“AirAsia X’s London-Kuala Lumpur route is the realisation of a long-
held ambition to open up affordable access between Malaysia and
Europe.
A boutique hotel in Kuala Lumpur

Sheila Giddings is stopping in Malaysia en route to Oz and wants a
special, intimate place to stay

“As time passes, there will be more promotions and the fare could well
fall further – we always look to make the fare as low as possible”, he
added.

The new route will be serviced by an Airbus A340 aircraft with a 286
passenger capacity including 30 premium XL seats.

AirAsia X already flies to the Gold Coast, Perth and Melbourne in
Australia and Hangzhou in China.

It links into the network of sister airline AirAsia network, which has
more than 100 destinations in south-east Asia, China and India.

The new route opens up one-stop links to destinations such as Phuket,
Borneo, Bali, Angkor Wat, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Commercial and Development Director for Stansted, Nick Barton, said:
"Today’s announcement is not only exciting news for Stansted but a
significant milestone for low-cost, long haul air travel around the
world."

Booking is open on AirAsia’s website from midday for the five direct
flights per week beginning in March 2009 between Stansted and Kuala
Lumpur for the travel period of 11 March 2009 – 24 October 2009.
