About Muster Station Drills
On all of the 4 cruises I've been on so far (3 Princess, 1 HAL . . .
yeah, I know, I'm a rookie compared to some of you ) the muster station drill has taken place before the ship left port. Is there a cruise ship (or even line) in which the drill takes place after departure? Looking at a Travel Channel program about a RCCL ship the other night, it appeared that the drill was taking place after departure (unless it was just sloppy editing). I do know that, unless the law has changed, the drill must take place within 24 hours of departure. TIA, Arthur -- Stop the chop by deleting it from my address. |

TIA, Arthur IIRC they used to be held even after sailing, but aside from distant memories of cruises in the mid 90's I can't recall anything but prior to sailing. -- Joseph Coulter Cruises and Vacations http://www.josephcoulter.com/ |

About Muster Station Drills
I work for one of the major cruise lines and I am a 1st in charge of a
muster satation. I may be able to answer this question for you. International law requires all passenger embarking on a cruise to attend the Muster drill within 24 hours of boarding the ship. To make things easier (so you don't have to take time during your 1st day sailing) they do it prior to sailing on the day of embarkation. However, if you board the vessel during the time the drill was taking place you would be given notice to attend the drill during the morining of the first day of the cruise. Hope this helps. But I'm sure that its B4 the casino and bars open. |

Since the bars are generally open during embarkation that doesn't seem likely, but the bars do close for the drill. -- Joseph Coulter Cruises and Vacations http://www.josephcoulter.com/ |

Sailings from San Juan, PR typically leave around 11:00 at night, with guests checking in up until the time of sailing. In fact several times, the ship was delayed waiting for flights to arrive late. One time I think we departed after midnight. No point having the drill that late at night. Therefore the life boat drill for San Juan sailings frequently take place the first day at sea. --Tom |

Most bars are already open when you board the ship,we always attend the
drills, but after 38 of them we are used to them, however in my way of thinking,if something does go wrong on a ship,it is evry man(or woman) for themselves. Saw it happen on the REGENT STAR surfer e2468 |
