Default AUD exchange rate?

Relative interest rates!!!

Australia's are among the highest in the developed world at the moment -
thus the punters buy AUD.

When either the RBA drops our rates, or the USA raises their interest
rates - the AUD will falter and fall (if the differential is high enough)!!

Plus there are a few other factors - inflation rate, political stability,
trade balances etc - probably not as significant as raw interest rates just
now!!

whats driving the AUD recovery though? and when will it end ... this is
nuts!

the US dollar has fallen compared to the AUD quite a bit ... any ideas

on
when/if there'll be a recovery?

your thoughts are appreciated?!

The TV news here in Oz keeps telling me that the AUD is at a 7 year

high.
Seems to me that the it is the AUD which is doing the recovering!

how often does the RTA adjust rates? and how likely are they to drop AUD
rates in the next 6 months?

Monthly!!

Consensus is that they will probably leave the rates static this month -
where from there depends on the rest of the world too; but likely a drop in
March!

RBA = Reserve Bank of Australia

The Governor of the RBA is independent of the government, advised by an
independent Board!!

what are the typical adjustments i.e. 1/4 or 1/2 point? what does that
usually translate into in terms of the change of value of AUD (assuming all
other factors remain constant)?

Hope this holds up or gets even better until August - September when I am
planning to come to Canada.
Visit daughter in Hamilton (On) and see the Rockies.
Maybe Raffi you can give some hints

I'm on the other end of the country and haven't explored the areas you
mention yet but will be mucking around the west/rockies before you get here
(don't want to be more specific to the world at large) - ask again later!

Despite all my "don't predict currency fluctuation" frothing, I suspect
we're in for a bit of a devaluation against the only foreign currency that
matters here - the vast majority of our trade is with the US and so despite
the fact it's not a case of the Canadian dollar appreciating as much as the
USD depreciating (we are doing poorly against the Euro, the AUD, the NZD,
the Pound, the Yen, and most other denominations of note) our exporters are
crying blue murder. It's also going to be a federal election year and lower
interest rates will always be a good sell.

Where will we be against the AUD? Who knows?
