This sounds like the itinerary we did on the Volendam. Keep in mind that
you may be in Aruba untill midnight, but the roll up the sidewalks
around 6ish. We were the only ship in port and my guess is that you will
also be alone. The casino stayed open and maybe some of the bars or
restaurants, but the stores close down.

What will the Dutch do when they see the Vikings invade their ship?
Do the Dutch allow Hats in the dining room? Like in Viking Hats? Bunny
ears? XMAS Hats?

I don't think they will handle the Viking group very well, good luck.LOL

Will we find out where they hide the old people?

More important is will Charles really going to go on HAL??????

sue

Charles Is already Booked!
and we could care less about Stores being open at night in Aruba!
If Iguana Joes and Carlos and Charlies is open WE be there! Charles
and Tom are more party people so they are in charge of the Party Bus
to Hop Hop HOp Does this mean we wear Bunny ears in Aruba????

I have been in Aruba at night. Went to a dutch restaurant. Went and saw
local entertainers. Don't know if they still have the Banana bus. That
did a few bars including Carlos and Charlies. There are a bunch of
nightspots. I think the Vikings will find plenty to do in Aruba at
night.

We are most excited that we be there that late because aruba is a
Night time town. My Business partner is a Aruba Expert having been
there over 250 Times Goes every month, He was head of media relations
for Natalee Holloway and does the Political Campaigns there, Aruba is
the safest island hence it has a nice night life. the flavor of the
island is the dining Experience there so being there later is
definitly a Plus. and we like going out on the town and having FUN-
Shops in the day- but after 40 + cruises Who really shops anymore!

I forgot to answer your first question...I don't know how HAL will handle
the" youngun Vikings," as they are rather reserved!
;-) And you, (not me) were quite visible on the Liberty of the Seas, Ha! But
I do know you will be wearing Dutch hats one night on the cruise as they
have a *Dutch* night and menu! Maybe there will be more younger passengers
than on the Alaskan and Mediterranean voyages since it will be near
Christmas and in the Caribbean.
So far I have been on the Statendam (2) Ryndam (1), the Volendam (1), and
the Westerdam once right after her maiden voyage in the Mediterranean.

For real there is a DUTCH night??? can we wear wooden shoes???
If I put them out by my room will I wake up and have Presents in
them??? (HEY BE NICE)
I want to wear a dutch girl hat. hahahahahahhaa
SO Jean since we never did a HAL Tell us what its like. My DSM told me
the last 2 years HAL has changed its demographics for some reason that
the median age for Caribbean is now 45 and their sister company
carnival is48 SOOOO they are getting younger.
But I hear nice ships ( I hate the color on the outside good thing we
sail on the inside)

Good... next Halloween we'll have to look for Heineken Hats. Heineken is
Dutch. Like My Cousin Vinny said... "That should make us blend....".

Sue said the DSM said that the newer ships have a younger crowd than the
older Statendam ships. Wonder if they named the Statendam after Staten
Island?

I think the HAL dynamic may be different with the Vikings than the HAL
you've seen before... LOL.

HAL provides the Dutch hats...so you don't need to buy any...Everyone in the
dining room gets one!
They are on the table when you arrive for dinner.

NO WAY really? I am now excited.... BOb is very upset no belly Flop
contest. he had a perfect score this year, and the water must have
been 42 degrees.
He was born in Germany so that is close to being Dutch hahahha

Hi Jean

FYI I don't lnow if it's "across the board" but on our last cruise on HAL
(Zaandam, 14 day, B 2 B, Alaska in September) they had NO "Dutch" nights in
the dining rooms.

So... we've done Celebrity, we've done Princess, we've done Royal Caribbean,
and we need to save our money to do Oasis next year (December 2010).... so
what to do December this year, at a reasonable price????

Cunard? *Too pricey.
Costa? *MSC? *Hmmm... potential for very smoky.
NCL from NYC? *The itinerary isn't very good... and we viewed NCL as risky
if they go bankrupt.
Princess again? *Not much interest from the group.
Explorer from NJ? *Too close to XMAS.
RCI from Miami again? *We need a change.
Celebrity? *No 1 week sailings from Florida at reasonable prices.
Carnival? *We fought... some of us had to dig in our heels.
All Inclusive? *Could be the default if we don't find anything.
Windstar? *Crystal? *Regent? *Dream on.
Holland America? *Charles said they hide seniors.... Hmmmm... wait a
minute...

Couple of ships look interesting...
Eurodam from Ft. Lauderdale to Eastern Caribbean.
Ryndam from Tampa to Western Caribbean.
Westerdam from Ft. Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay, Curacao, Aruba.

The web page shows insides from around $549 pp (plus taxes). *Not too
horrible. *That's in our ball park. *And maybe we can do better once Susette
starts negotiating for group rates, cabin credits, reduced single
supplements, etc. *With limited balconies, the Ryndam balcony prices are too
high. *So the 2 finalists are Westerdam and Eurodam. *We voted... the tie
breaker was Curacao. *So we picked the Westerdam.

*So... the VIKINGS ARE GOING DUTCH.

Here's our itinerary: *Westerdam. *Dec 6 2009.
Ft. Lauderdale; Half Moon Cay; Sea; Aruba (we stay until midnight); Curacao;
Sea; Sea; Ft. Lauderdale

Now the tough questions...

What will the Dutch do when they see the Vikings invade their ship?
Do the Dutch allow Hats in the dining room? *Like in Viking Hats? *Bunny
ears? *XMAS Hats?
Will they have to come and talk to us about our behavior... like the person
on Celebrity did?
Will we find out where they hide the old people?
And... this is scary... What do we do if they think we're old and try to
HIDE US?

Tom, we've done the Westerdam (same itinerary that you selected) the
past two years in a row. We were booked to do it again this April,
but had to cancel. I think you are going to be quite impressed with
the ship and we absolutely love that itinerary. Curacao is so nice
and HMC can't be beat. I can't think of anything bad to say about
Aruba...the beaches are beautiful.
