Default Loveboat Theme

[Default] Thus spake Susette :

I had remembered 12 years ago on the Grand Princess where the Vikings
met they played the song over and over and over and once on the old
Pacific Princess thi played too but I believe they said a few years
ago they were retiring the song. its ashame cause its a nice theme to
have, makes you smile at least... I LOVE THE rainbow on Celebrity
and love the Disney WIsh upon a star nice when they make things their
own like that

If you like Wish Upon a Star, I'll try to dig up the URL of the horn.
I think it's the Magic.

Disney Wonder also plays "when you wish upon a star." At least they did
when I took the family on this cruise.

I'll never forget the exchange of ship's horns when we were on the mighty
Norway....It was in October of 2001 when the Norway was anchored near St.
Maartan. The Disney ship was about to leave and played "When You Wish Upon a
Star" and the Norway responded with its mighty loud horn. Then Disney would
play their tune and the Norway would again respond...this went on at least
4-5 times to our joy and amusement...Gosh darn I miss that wonderful ship!

The Norway was a beautiful ship and I sailed on her twice. Will always
remember the excellent service in the diningroom from the Jamaican's.
Back then even the caesar salad was made at your table! Also had fun in
the crew bar as my sister and I were invited by the Norwegians, and they
really know how to party.
Oh to be young and good looking again! LOL

I think it depends on the Cruise Director. We've heard it played
several times leaving different ports.

Lola in Hamilton

Not too sure about that but I know that Celebrity plays Somewhere Over
The Rainbow as they are leaving port.

Check out my blog it's all about when i worked on the cruise ships
http://travellingscott.blogspot.com

Was that during an Atlantis Gay Cruise charter? Otherwise, I don't see
the connection with Celebrity. Judy Garland or Liza were never
spokespersons (or singspersons). I believe that Dorothy rode a
farmhouse in a tornado to get to Oz. In no version of the story did
Dorothy take a Celebrity Cruise Ship to the land of Oz. How could a
Celebrity Cruise Ship fall on the Wicked Witch of The East?

I'd settle for just a little less decrepit

The "Love Boat Theme" ? Didn't they send that to that scrap yard in
India along with the ship that was used in that insipid series? Maybe
they should commission Elton John, or Jimmy Buffett to compose a song
for Princess. As a matter of preference, I think a Jimmy Buffett song
should be played on all cruise ships plying the Caribbean waters.
Carnival could play "Fins". Princess - "Boat Drinks", Celebrity -
"Changes in Attitudes Changes in Lattitudes" and HAL "Son of a son of a
sailor". Notice I've left out "Margaritaville"; it's over played.
Jimmy has written a heck of a lot more songs since Margaritaville.

One of the bands that Celebrity used did a Reggae version of Somewhere Over
The Rainbow very similar to the version that Hawaiian singer Israel
Kamakawiwo'ole did. The Reggae version is what they used.

iTunes has a 30 second cut of the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole version if you
wanted to hear what it sounds like.

That ship is still in service as the Pacific.

Does anyone know if Princess still plays the "Loveboat" theme when
boarding?
Thanks, Shirley

As company policy, they don't..... but some of the cruise directors sneak it
in at some point during the cruise.

FWIW - I was attending a cruise marketing seminar and they talked about
Princess and the Love Boat theme. It appears that the general consensus was
that the "Love Boat" was so closely identified with Princess specifically
and cruising in general that it was a huge mistake for them to abandon it in
their advertising.

It was the first recreational "cruise brand" that was popularized, had
almost universal name recognition and was a positive force in building the
modern cruise industry.... and the power-that-be walked away from it.
