Yeah, back-pocket is a sitting duck, I'm sorry to say. Front-pocket is safer,
but really, a money-belt, underneath your clothing is the best way to
deter them.

Just got back from Nice and had no trouble, nor heard of any. Big city
tourists are a prime target though, nowhere worse than Amsterdam where
they work in teams on the train from Schiphol Airport into the city.
One bumps into you and apologises profusely, dusting you down etc,
while the other picks pockets of flight weary arrivals. I clip my
wallet to my belt but its best I get to get a moneybelt

I haven't had any problem since I put a (tight) button on my back
pocket. Although in high-pickpocket territory, I might use an inside
wallet.

After having my wallet lifted on the Paris Metro ten years ago, I
simply stopped carrying a wallet. I stuff my money in one pocket,
my credit cards in another, etc. Makes it hard to pick my pocket,
and I won't lose everything if the thieves have success.

I wear a wallet in my front pocket, and I find that secure.

Me too, in my Rohans. Hidden zip pockets everywhere!
