"James" schreef in bericht ... http://www.rte.ie/news/2003/1019/airplane.html Quote "The plane was on route from Queen Beatrix International Airport on the Dutch-owned Carribean holiday resort of Aruba " Dutch-owned! RTE needs to do some research. Aruba is one of the constituent parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. They have the same rights as the other 2 parts which are the Netherlands Antilles (Curacao, Bonaire, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten) and the Netherlands' territory in Europe. Aruba is free to leave the Kingdom at any moment and declare independence. The plane from Aruba is now scheduled to arrive at Schiphol Sunday at 17:30. Sjoerd |

Compare Aruba with Suriname, that got independence peacefully in 1975. (and quickly became a mess thereafter, and lost half of its population who emigrated to the Netherlands) Sjoerd |

They do however have a relatively autonomous government, and, IIRC, are not subject to the taxes of those residing in the U.S. |

I wonder if a non-Puerto Rican USA citizen moved to Puerto Rico if they would then be exempted from the Federal Income tax. dennis |

I believe US citizens are taxed regardless of their place of residence. My American friends living here in the Netherlands tell me they have to report their income to the US tax office every year.
