TA gets arrested!!!!!!!
Here is an article that appeared in a local paper. While I do not believe
that most TA are even remotely like this one, there are more than a few out there that would do this. Please be sure of who you are dealing with before you give any money to anyone, and use a reputable TA. Full story is he http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/16440.htm January 22, 2004 -- A "heartless" Long Island travel agent stole more than $20,000 from a terminally ill retired detective who wanted to treat his sick wife and her family to a final cruise to Bermuda, prosecutors said yesterday. Rosa Yanez, 58, was charged with grand larceny after allegedly ripping off former NYPD Deputy Chief Michael Philbin, 70, said Nassau DA Denis Dillon. "This crime was particularly heartless," said Dillon. "The victim had planned this trip because his wife is suffering from Alzheimer's disease and the family wanted to travel together before the disease became too advanced." Dillon said Yanez, the owner of the shuttered Friendship Travel Service in East Meadow, sold Philbin a cruise for 16 family members. He said Philbin, who suffers from terminal cancer, booked the one-week cruise from Aug. 16 until Aug. 23, 2003. On June 11, he gave Yanez a deposit of $2,500 to reserve five cabins. A month later, he gave her another check for $17,573.60. Philbin called the agency several times, but Yanez told him the tickets were not ready. A week before their scheduled trip, Philbin and his wife went to the agency and discovered a "For Rent" sign. His son, Michael Jr., said Philbin spotted Yanez across the street. "She said, 'If you want your money, you'll have to sue me,' " said the younger Philbin. If convicted, Yanez faces up to seven years in prison, Dillon said. |

TA gets arrested!!!!!!!
That witch deserves more than 7 years in prison. I think someone should
take her on a cruise and dump her overboard. Too bad the fellow didn't use plastic to pay. ~Dory~ |
