Default A German Canoe Trip

Sixteen Germans (from Berlin) go ashore by their canoes at a beach of a
Finnish country cottage at Suvasvesi in Leppävirta. When a neighbour
called the owners and told them what was going on, their son came to
expel those uninvited people from the property. Some of them turned
angry about it and refused to go away. Anyway, he managed to collect
identity of some of the intruders. I guess a legal act will follow at a
Finnish court.

I hate to think what would happen if they were Libyans washed up in a
boat from Tunisia.

I was wondering, if a boatful of starving Norwegians got washed up on
the shores of Denmark, would they be rescued or locked up?

(Hint: Norway is not a member of the EU. And Denmark claims to be).

Poor analogy- Norway is in the EEA and Norwegians have the same
immigration status as EU nationals: indeed Denmark and Norway's
agreement probably predates the EU/EEA, similar to UK/Ireland and no
doubt other groups...

I am wondering, too. A boat with starving Libyan refugees coming from
Tunisia is washed up on Finland's beaches. First thing they do, after
closely missing Gibraltar, Dover, Skagen and København (Bornholm was
seen, but campgrounds were full), is firing up their barbecue, placing
the picnic tables and the Tupperware boxes - and have lunch.
Now, I think it's very well-thought of them to starve all the 28000 km
from Africa to Scandinavia. Unthinkable what might happen if open fire
is used in wooden boats!

I am wondering, however, where you see the link between stupid tourists
at a picnic table and starving boat people?

What does either hypothetical situation have to do with German tourists
trespassing on private property?

My response, too! There seem to be a large number of tourists
everywhere who tend to regard beach/lake/riverfront property as open to
the public, but in most civilized countries that is not true. Whether
they are welcome or not depends upon the property's owner, not the
tourists' whim!

It is here.

In the UK all property between the high watermark and the low watermark
belongs to the crown.

Except in areas reserved for military use the crown allows free access.

Regular readers of r.t.e knew it: The British royals are socialists. In
the USofA, you'll be shot on other people's property. That's good ol' style!

But Suvasvesi is a lake, and not a tidal seashore.
